Heads up, Philly drivers! PennDOT is rolling out more construction on Interstate 95, and it's going to make your evening commute a bit trickier. Next Thursday night, if you're planning on taking the ramp from Aramingo Avenue to northbound I-95, you'll need to reroute. From 8:00 PM until the early birds start chirping at 5:00 AM the next day, that ramp is getting a facelift, and you'll be detoured down Aramingo Avenue and Tacony Street just to hop back on I-95 at Bridge Street, as reported by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
This isn't a cakewalk, folks – expect delays, expect frustration, and squeeze extra time into your travel plans. They told us straight up that backups, and delays are part of the deal. They're crossing their fingers for sunny skies, though, because any rain or snow can throw a wrench into the works and delay the ramp's reopening, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
But why all the hassle? It's part of a major overhaul that's costing a cool $268 million. PennDOT is reconstructing a chunk of I-95 between Carver and Margaret streets – not just for kicks, but for improving the whole driving experience, including the Bridge Street Interchange. This is just one piece of that big, expensive puzzle.
So remember, come next Thursday when you're wondering why you're sitting in traffic instead of being home, it's all part of the grand plan to make I-95 better. And a little heads up, never hurt anybody, so spread the word to your friends, family, and that one guy at work who always seems to be running late. Maybe with enough warning, we can all get through this with a bit less stress.
