Last Wednesday, a routine patrol turned into a high-stakes chase in Brentwood when officers located a vehicle that had previously evaded police. As reported by the City of Brentwood Police Department, the encounter began near Lone Tree Way and Highway 4, but the suspect managed to again slip away, with the vehicle later being found abandoned.
It wasn't long before local residents began to report both the suspicious vehicle and a man attempting to hide in the bushes. Officers rapidly converged on the area based on these tips, establishing a tight perimeter to throttle any potential escape. They spotted a male clad in dark attire including a mask, but, despite their best efforts to corner him, the man initially managed to swiftly evade and began to leap across fences into adjacent yards.
The drama culminated when a Brentwood officer on perimeter duty spotted the suspect, 23-year-old Carlos Elizaldeortiz from Pittsburg, and took him into custody. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered an assortment of contraband, among which were fentanyl, ammunition, and two magazines. A loaded firearm was also located a day later, discarded in a manner that matched the path Elizaldeortiz took during his flight from the officers.
Further complicating Elizaldeortiz's legal woes is his status as a convicted felon, which significantly escalates the charges against him. He was arrested on multiple counts, accused to possess drugs and a firearm, alongside evading police.
