The suspected gunman, after fleeing the scene in his vehicle, was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A police unit discretely traced the suspect's car as it sped westbound on I-580 until it became immobilized near Benedict Drive in San Leandro. Despite attempts to establish communication, officers approached the vehicle to find the male driver dead inside.
