A brazen dog-napping was caught on camera as two men swiped a French bulldog from Puppyland, a Puyallup canine emporium, an act of theft leaving local pet lovers howling for justice. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department has freshly distributed the surveillance footage in hopes of tracking down the dognappers; the footage shows the duo strolling into the store at 13103 Meridian East around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and shortly thereafter absconding with the prized puppy, according to a report from KATU News.
The suspects, both in their 30s, featured distinct appearances; the first man is described by the PCSD as Hispanic between 5-foot-6 and 5-8, donning a ballcap, blue jacket, black jeans and the second a Black man measured at 5-8 to 5-9 with a medium build, a durag paired with gray hoodie and black jeans, and they were apparently dispatched in a red Toyota Camry with taped back windows, like a scene scripted for some noir heist drama but played out in broad Washington daylight, which was narrated by KOMO News.
The theft has ignited concern among local pet store proprietors, wary of potential copycats—the crime illustrating a growing demand for flashy, high-value breeds, often boosting a dangerous underground market for stolen pets. With no arrests made yet, PCSD calls on the public for any leads to apprehend the culprits who managed to carry out their heist without rousing the shopkeepers' suspicion and with no initial confrontation, detailed by NBC 15.
Community members have been voicing their outrage and concern on social media, with many wondering how the heartless thieves could be so callous as to rip a puppy from its safe haven—one minute frolicking amongst chew toys and water bowls the next thrust into the shadowy abyss of pet thievery, a saga that will continue to unfold as authorities and animal lovers alike plead for the safe return of the pilfered pup and the capture of the perpetrators.
