Chaos erupted on a normally quiet street in Rancho Cucamonga when deputies arrested a 20-year-old man after a robbery at a Chevron gas station. Tyree Thompson, resident of the area, reportedly stormed into the store around 1:31 p.m. on Wednesday, an assault weapon in hand, and demanded cash from the terrified clerk.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department stated that after Thompson filled his pockets, he made a hasty getaway on his scooter. However, the escape was short-lived. Deputies quickly tracked him down in a nearby business's parking lot. When confronted, Thompson took to his heels and attempted to leap over a fence before deputies nabbed him.
Thompson's arrest was not the end of his ordeal – he complained of chest pain and was transported to a local hospital by American Medical Response. After receiving medical clearance, Thompson was jailed at West Valley Detention Center, awaiting a court appearance with a stiff $120,000 bail over his head. His rap sheet now includes charges of robbery, possession of an assault weapon, possession of a large-capacity magazine, and assault with a deadly weapon, according to official reports.
With Tyree Thompson set to appear before the Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court come March 15, the local police urge anyone with more information on the case to come forward. The Rancho Cucamonga Police Department, reachable at 909-477-2800, is calling on witnesses who may shed further light on the incident.
