
A pedestrian was hit and later died after being struck by a vehicle on Saturday night in Rancho Cucamonga, authorities said. The incident occurred near the intersection of Base Line Road and Klusman Avenue at approximately 9:34 p.m. when a gray Toyota Rav4, heading east on Base Line Road collided with the 67-year-old man as he was crossing the street, according to a statement released by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as 58-year-old John Lee from Rancho Cucamonga, reportedly did not see the pedestrian and hit him in the eastbound number one lane of Base Line Road, the man was transported to a local hospital by American Medical Response but despite the efforts of the medical staff he was pronounced dead, the Sheriff's Department informed. As the community grapples with the tragedy deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Major Accident Investigation Team, Deputy A. Smith and Deputy M. Magdeleno, have taken charge of the ongoing investigation the identity of the deceased man is being withheld until his family can be notified.
