A Red Lake resident has been handed down an 83-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a minor. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota announced the conviction of 63-year-old Ronald Royce Pearson, detailing the imposition of a subsequent seven-year supervised release following his incarceration.
Documents revealed in the court notably indicated that on August 27, 2022, Pearson was visiting a home on the Red Lake Indian Reservation when he engaged in a sexual act with a minor. Nearly a year later, on September 6, 2023, Pearson accepted responsibility for his actions and chose to plead directly guilty to one count of sexual abuse of a minor.
The sentencing, carried out by Judge Nancy E. Brasel, concluded the legal proceedings against Pearson. The case emerged from cooperative efforts by the FBI, the Red Lake Police Department, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lindsey E. Middlecamp led the prosecution, ensuring that the grisly details of the abuse were thoroughly presented and accounted for in the search for justice.
There was a certain unavoidable weight to the words "sexual abuse of a minor," a weight that manifested not merely in the legal reckoning but also in the unspoken and lasting impact on the community's soul. "This case is the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI, the Red Lake Police Department, and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection," was mentioned officially in a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota.
