In Roswell, Georgia, city officials are ramping up their battle against unsanctioned massage parlors with the Roswell Police Department recently shutting down nine establishments found to be operating illicitly. This crackdown brings the year's closure count to 16, signaling a stern message from the local government on business compliance. According to a report by FOX 5 Atlanta, these businesses were not in possession of the appropriate licenses required for operation.
The most recent enforcement operation on March 18 led to the immediate shut down of places like Care Therapeutic Health Services LLC and Ease Massage, among others. These actions are the latest in ongoing efforts to "come down, get a license and operate appropriately," as Roswell Police Chief James Conroy told FOX 5 Atlanta. The city intends to maintain a facade of legitimacy and legality for its local business community.
As part of the clean-up effort, fifteen additional businesses were scrutinized for adherence to the City Ordinance, resulting in six citations for violations. Chief Conroy mentioned past undercover operations that have unearthed human traffickers hiding behind the businesses' exteriors, leading to multiple arrests and charges including human trafficking, sex trafficking, labor trafficking, and violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.
With this legistative push, Roswell Mayor Kurt Wilson has vowed to continue stamping out any activities that endanger the community. In a statement obtained by WSB-TV, Mayor Wilson said, “Since taking office in 2022, the City Council and I made it our top priority to eradicate illicit activities in massage parlors and put an end to human trafficking in the City of Roswell.” He underlined the city's commitment to public safety and its protection of vulnerable residents who cannot defend themselves.
The city's message is clear: noncompliant businesses need to cease their improper operations and regular compliance checks by the Roswell Police Department are to continue in the following days and weeks. For massage establishments in Roswell, they must hold both a valid massage establishment license and a business license. Authorities have signalled to those not yet in compliance to "immediately cease operations" and apply for necessary licensing at the Roswell Police Department. The ongoing saga underscores Roswell’s determination in ensuring all local businesses follow the letter of the law.
