Get ready to turn the page San Antonio, the annual book bash is back in town and it's got something for every type of reader, from the spine-chilling enthusiasts to those longing for the warm fuzzies of a good old romance. According to the San Antonio Report, the San Antonio Book Festival's literary director, Anna Dobben, has whittled down a hefty pool to present 100 hand-picked authors for the lit fiesta set for April 13. While Brooklyn might be her stomping ground, Dobben's got the lowdown on San Antonio's diverse literary cravings, which she leveraged to cater to local bookworms, boasting picks from horror faves to page-turners by Texas storytellers.
With the lineup featuring the likes of Lawrence Wright discussing his new satirical novel "Mr. Texas," the addition of crowd-puller Silvia Moreno-Garcia, famed for "Mexican Gothic" and now gracing the festival with her latest work "Silver Nitrate", this year's edition is challenging attendees to clone themselves, because the schedule is jammed with tempting picks and overlapping panels but as Dobben told the San Antonio Report, "you can always buy the book, so you don’t have to go to everything."
Over at the Central Library and UTSA Southwest Campus, other stars in the literary constellation will shine, including three-time National Book Award finalist Lauren Groff, NPR's Steve Inskeep, young adult novelist Becky Albertalli, and Hanif Abdurraqib, poet extraordinaire back with a memoir. As stated by Express News, Executive Director Lilly Gonzalez considers this year's emphasis on Texas talent a prideful point, highlighting the festival's local flavors alongside big national names.
So, whether it's the intrigue of Tim O’Brien’s "America Fantastica," a deep-dive into Lincoln’s leadership with Inskeep, or a journey through Abdurrabiq's reflections on basketball and ascension, the festival is setting up a smorgasbord of literary delights, and if you ask the masterminds behind the event, it's no less than a literary love letter to San Antonio's eclectic tastes, Moreno-Garcia's presence being the cherry on top for the book-happy folks of Alamo City – she fizzed atop the local reading charts with "Mexican Gothic", and now she's here to sprinkle that magic once more with "Silver Nitrate," as Gonazalez remarked to the Express News.
