A family on the northeast side of San Antonio narrowly escaped a potentially devastating house fire early Tuesday. Flames erupted in their garage before dawn, prompting an urgent evacuation of the home. According to KENS 5, the San Antonio Fire Department was called to the 12000 block of Stoney Summit, near McAllister Park, following a report of a garage fire that began just before 4 a.m.
The fire brigade found the garage engulfed in flames upon their arrival. An alert resident managed to quickly rescue three family members -- his mother, nephew, and himself -- after he heard a suspicious noise and opened the garage door to find a blaze near the vehicle parked inside, ready to quickly spread to consume the structure. The family's timely escape allowed them to avoid injury, as reported by KENS 5.
Investigations are underway to determine the spark that birthed this threatening blaze. A fire investigation unit was quick to arrive on the scene, scouring through the remnants for clues. While the fire's origin remains unclear, its impact was apparent: the structure suffered damage contained primarily within the garage, though pervasive smoke was reported throughout the residence, according to firefighter officials.
The San Antonio home, which stands off Stoney Summit near Wetmore Road—now scarred by this incident—has become the unlikely stage for a family's brush with calamity. "Everyone made it out safely," confirmed FOX San Antonio. Despite the early-hour fright, no injuries were reported.
Damage assessments are still pending as firefighters and inspectors continue to carefully sift through the charred remains. Details regarding the financial toll of the incident have yet been to released.
