Two veteran San Antonio police officers fatally shot a man believed to be in his early 30s after he drew a weapon on them. This incident took place in an east-side neighborhood of San Antonio on Monday evening during a confrontation over aggravated robbery warrants, said Police Chief William McManus.
As reported by KENS 5, the officers, who have been in the force for 16 and 13 years respectively, were attempting to arrest Loop 410 and Rigsby when the suspect allegedly pulled a gun. The police quickly responded by firing, subsequently striking and killing the man.
Details about the incident remain scarce as the investigation continues. Chief McManus emphasized that information could change, and neither the identity of the man nor details of his criminal history have been disclosed at this time. A resident told KENS 5 that the response was immediate, with a fleet of police cars arriving on the scene "in seconds" after the gunshots were heard.
According to a statement obtained by KSAT, Chief McManus confirmed that the man did not fire his weapon at the officers. The officers' swift move to neutralize the perceived threat resulted in the suspect being taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The incident marks the third deadly shooting by San Antonio police this year and the seventh overall involving the department in 2024. Following department policy, both officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
