A teen brandishing a shotgun was shot by San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) officers after they responded to a call of a disturbance, detailed SAPD Chief William McManus.
The incident occurred on the 9100 block of Cinnamon Trail and Cinnamon Creek, as the officers were responding to a report from a woman who said a man was acting violently, had a knife, and was threatening to kill her. According to KENS 5, when officers arrived and began to cautiously approach the apartment, the 19-year-old male suspect came out and pointed a shotgun at them, prompting both officers to quickly open fire and to shoot the suspect.
The two involved officers were unharmed during the altercation. One has been on the force for four years, while the other is a newer addition with only two months under their belt. The teenage suspect was taken to the hospital following the shooting, but the specifics of his condition have not been made available.
Chief McManus stated he had yet "to carefully review the body camera footage" and added that the information could shift as the ongoing investigation unfolds. He provided these comments in an interview with KSAT. This recent confrontation marks the sixth officer-involved shooting for SAPD this year, following a previous incident that took place on February 2.
The investigation into the shooting remains active, with updates expected to be provided as new information surfaces. Both news sources will continue to follow the story and offer updates.
