As the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) pushes forward with its rightsizing initiative, deadlines loom for the faculty and staff at 15 schools slated to shutter their doors come this fall. Superintendent Jaime Aquino has twice affirmed that SAISD employees affected by the closures will maintain their positions within the district, aiming to mitigate the anxieties surrounding job security. According to the FOX San Antonio report, the district is navigating the complex logistics of redistributing human resources as the academic year nears its conclusion.
As per updates from a recent school board meeting, the majority of students displaced by the rightsizing have successfully paired with a new institution—a move that has 90% of them set to transition smoothly. Deputy Superintendent Patti Salzmann stressed the district's commitment to supporting families through this transition, emphasizing the attention given to "next steps for registration" and ensuring the adequacy of school amenities for the upcoming year, from FOX San Antonio underscored in their coverage.
Talking turnover specifics, information obtained by KSAT reveals that the district has already locked in placements for 90% of the teachers impacted, however, 27 educators remain in limbo still waiting on word of their new placements. The plan has been less clear-cut for principals, with just nine out of the fifteen affected securing knowledge of their forthcoming roles for the next academic venture.
Under Aquino's guidance, efforts have included personal faculty meetings across each impacted school, allowing the superintendent to hear teacher concerns firsthand, as detailed by FOX San Antonio; meanwhile, Salzmann noted that despite some student departures following the announcement of the rightsizing, the district remains stalwart in its goal to provide a seamless transition for the majority who have elected to stay, ending on a note of tentative optimism with the closure of the academic year swiftly approaching.
