San Diegans are looking at a weekend of changing weather patterns, with minor fluctuations that remind us nature is definitively in control. According to the National Weather Service San Diego, locals can expect "warmer today with highs near normal," as stated on their website. However, prepping for Sunday might require a slight adjustment, as minor cooling west of the mountains is on the docket, and the deserts are forecasted to see minor warming.
But the mild conditions aren't set to last. The NWS San Diego's Area Forecast Discussion warns of "a trough that will bring greater cooling Monday and Tuesday along with more widespread marine layer clouds west of the mountains, and blustery west winds in the mountains and deserts." It's that time again to possibly grab a sweater and brace for the cooler days ahead. In the mountains, winds are expected to quickly change, gusting up to potentially 50 mph, which could "bring down tree branches," an advisory posted by the service cautions. It's a reminder, yet again, to always be prepared to change plans quickly, should the weather decide to swiftly change course.
For those in the San Diego County Mountains above 5500 feet, today's weather is no joke either. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon, and conditions "could impact the morning commute," with additional snow accumulations of less than 2 inches, and those gusty winds up to 50 mph causing potential hazards. The advisory suggests that motorists slow down and use caution — sound advice for anyone venturing into these areas.
Looking ahead into next week, weather enthusiasts or anyone planning outdoor activities should keep an eye on the forecast. NWS San Diego has hinted at the possibility of "some drizzle or light rain west of the mountains" by Wednesday morning. An upper level low, situated over Arizona on Thursday, could also play dice with temperatures, with the ensembles split on forecasting milder or warmer days towards the weekend.
