Chaos erupted at a San Mateo high school yesterday morning when a man got into a physical altercation with campus security after being asked to leave school grounds. According to the San Mateo Police Department, the incident took place at around 9:55 a.m. on March 13, prompting a 911 call and swift police action.
While attempting to detain the man, police said that he physically resisted, leading to a brief tussle before he was handcuffed. The school staff directed officers who quickly arrived on the scene to the suspect's location. Upon searching his backpack, they discovered a large kitchen knife. The suspect, later identified as Oscar Marroquen-Perez, 29, of San Mateo, continued to be aggressive and combative throughout the ordeal.
Marroquen-Perez now faces multiple charges, with the San Mateo Police Department detailing the list that includes trespassing on the school campus without justification, carrying a weapon on school grounds, disrupting school activities, resisting a police officer, and providing false identification to law enforcement. His run-in with the law didn't end there, as he also offered up false details about his identity during the incident, further complicating matters.
Following the arrest, the department urged citizens to remain vigilant and proactive in reporting crimes or suspicious activity. "Trust your instincts. See Something, Say Something," police insisted, indicating the critical role of community support in maintaining safety and security. Booked into the San Mateo County Jail, the disruption caused by Marroquen-Perez at the high school was met with a zero-tolerance response from the authorities, reinforcing the importance of school safety.
