The Ballard Bridge, a pivotal passageway in Seattle, experienced a malfunction yesterday, leaving drivers in a lurch as it remained stuck in its upright position. The glitch, which occurred earlier on Sunday, led to congested traffic on both sides of the bridge, as reported by FOX 13 Seattle.
The Seattle Department of Transportation was quickly on the scene after the report just after noon, dispatching a crew to grapple with the obstruction. Following their intervention, the bridge was returned to normal operation, once again allowing the traffic to flow when it started to function again, with the bridge closing just after 1 p.m. as per details obtained by KIRO 7 News.
As of now, all lanes have been reopened and traffic is back to its regular pace. Motorists, who were earlier advised to seek alternate routes, are now using the bridge with no reported difficulties.
The specific nature of the mechanical issue that caused the predicament has not been pinned down by the SDOT. As KIRO 7 News detailed, the agency noted, "a complete diagnostic of the bridge would take time," an investigation that is still ongoing into whether the glitch was of mechanical or electrical origin. Stuck between an open position and a resolution, the bridge left the people of Seattle momentarily disjoined from their ordinary trajectories.
