The Sevier County Humane Society has opened the doors to its "new and improved" Cat House, a facility made possible by the generosity and collaborative spirit of local businesses in Knoxville, Tennessee. WATE reported that the construction of the new cat house began in August 2023 and featured contributions from companies like Sensible Concrete and HRB Drywall. These benefactors are said to have supplied not just the funding, but also the labor, materials, and management necessary to complete the project.
As detailed by BNNBreaking, the initiative was a "labor of love," with Jeremy and Amy Williams of Sensible Concrete at the helm. They were joined by the likes of Mike Rutherford with HRB Drywall, Matt Johnston of Ridge Valley Heat & Air, parts from the Blalock Ready Mix, and teams from C&C Construction. All these businesses pitched in, creating an environment vastly improved from the previous cat adoption trailer.
With several large windows allowing natural light to flood the interior, the new cat house also comes complete with temperature control to keep the cats comfortable regardless of the season. According to WATE, the space includes two spacious community rooms where cats can run and play and benches for visitors and adopters to relax and interact with their potential new pets.
The grand opening, commemorated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 25, was not just about providing a haven for cats, but also about enhancing the community's capacity for animal welfare. As stated by The Mountain Press, this new development provides a "safe, comfortable haven for our beloved feline companions" as they wait to join new families, a significant upgrade from their previous accommodations.
