Southern California Anticipates Isolated Showers and Warmer Inland Temperatures, San Diego NWS ReportsSource: Osbornb from San Diego, California, United States, CC BY 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons

The National Weather Service in San Diego has forecast isolated showers and thunderstorms in Southern California, primarily targeting elevated areas. According to their Area Forecast Discussion, the best chance for precipitation is expected in the mountains. Areas above 6,500 feet may also see some snow showers.

While coastal residents can expect a typical March day, folks inland should brace for a slight uptick in temperatures. "Warmer weather coming into the picture," the National Weather Service noted, with inland highs creeping toward the lower 80s in some parts. Despite the instability brought on by a lingering low pressure in the vicinity, the coastal zones remain relatively undisturbed by significant weather changes.

Aviators should anticipate mostly unrestricted visibility. However, the NWS suggests that mountain slopes could be obscured, with light showers potentially affecting visibility in some high desert regions through the evening. "SCT-BKN layers with bases 3500-12000 ft MSL will continue through today evening," their discussion outlined, hinting at a slightly muggy skyline for pilots to navigate.

For those setting sail, the weather service predicts smooth sailing ahead. The marine forecast indicates a less than 10 percent chance of showers at sea, promising a stretch of hazard-free marine conditions through the week. However, Winter Storm Warning remained in place until earlier this morning for some mountainous areas, advising caution for any ventures into the higher elevations.

The local Skywarn network, although not officially activated, has been urged to remain vigilant. With the region on the cusp of a weather transition, the NWS is banking on citizen spotters to bolster their real-time reporting services, "Skywarn activation is not requested. However weather spotters are encouraged to report significant weather conditions," the forecast office stated. As California's inland begins to feel the early inklings of warmth, the week's weather narrative remains tethered to the capricious dance of coastal lows and highs.
