As Saint Paul winces in preparation for a battering by Mother Nature's latest mood swing, city officials are thinking on their feet, opting to keep recreation centers open as a little March madness—weather-wise—rolls in. The Department of Parks and Recreation has confirmed that while those essential rec centers will brave the elements, the fate of drop-in programming will be a toss-up, varied like a Minnesota weather forecast, and decided by the whims of each site, a sper the Saint Paul Parks and Recreation.
Parents, don't fret, because while Johnny may not be able to perfect his layup in the gym tonight, 'Rec Check,' the after-school haven for countless energetic youths, will keep the lights on—but strap in for the letdown, as all other evening activities at your local rec center are a no-go. According to Saint Paul Parks and Recreation, "Great River Water Park (Oxford Pool) will close at 2 p.m., and all afternoon/evening aquatic activities are canceled," the aqua-enthusiasts among us will have to shelve their swim caps and googles for another day.
In a move as surprising as a snowflake in April, the Saint Paul Municipal Athletics office has also decreed that games are off the table today; yes sports fans, it's time to park it on the couch and catch reruns instead because those cleats won't be hitting the fields under these gray skies. The department remains glued to weather updates, promising that any additional decisions impacting your leisurely pursuits or competitive streaks will be relayed faster than a Minnesota blizzard blows in.
