In a grim ending to a nearly two-year-old mystery, Dejaune Anderson, the mother of a young boy found deceased inside a suitcase, was apprehended in California on Thursday. In coordination with the Indiana State Police, U.S. Marshals made the arrest in Arcadia, a Los Angeles suburb, based on a warrant from Washington County, Indiana. Authorities announced the charges against Anderson include Murder, Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death, and Obstruction of Justice.
On the run since October 2022, the suspect has remained elusive until a tip from a concerned citizen led to her location, with the assistance of Detectives from Indiana State Police. According to law enforcement officials, attempting to board a public transit train, Anderson was captured by the U.S. Marshals. Indiana detectives are en route to California to press forward with their investigation. The case started unraveling when the body of Cairo Jordan, Anderson's five-year-old son, was discovered by a local man hunting for mushrooms in 2022.
In an X post, the LAPD Gang and Narcotics Division highlighted their efforts, acknowledging, "The GND USMATF worked through the night to bring justice for the killing of a 5 year old child by his mother in Indiana." They also gave a stern warning for fugitives considering Los Angeles as a refuge, asserting, "Don’t come to Los Angeles to hide out, we’ll find you!!" Praise was also given to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for their assistance during the operation of the metro rail.

When the body of Cairo Jordan was first found, his identity was a mystery that only deepened the heartache.
