In a late-night scare in Downtown Los Angeles, a Metro bus operator was kidnapped at the hands of a suspect now under arrest. The Los Angeles Police Department reported that no passengers were on board during the kidnapping ordeal that ended in a hotel collision.
Anai Lindsey, identified by the LAPD, commandeered the empty bus on March 20 around 11:10 p.m. The bus driver, terrorized by Lindsey who feigned possession of a firearm, was ordered to "Just Drive!" according to a statement from the LAPD. The incident quickly escalated when the suspect abruptly took control of the bus' steering wheel, causing it to smash into numerous vehicles and finally a hotel facade.
The alarming escapade began near Spring Street and 7th Street in LA's bustling downtown, culminating in Lindsey's escape on foot post-collision. A BB gun, initially mistaken for a real handgun, was discarded on the sidewalk and later retrieved by officers. This detail of the weapon being a BB gun was confirmed by the police.
Both the bus operator and an individual in an impacted vehicle were hurried to a local hospital, with the bus operator subsequently released and the vehicle’s occupant in stable condition. The LAPD confirmed that Lindsey, a Nevada resident, was arrested and booked on kidnapping charges. His bail is set at $100,000.00.
In the aftermath of the incident, authorities are actively seeking further details and urge anyone with information to contact Central Division detectives. Tips can also be shared anonymously through the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers website or its "P3 Tips" mobile application.
