
A suspect was shot and killed by Montgomery County deputies early Sunday morning in Spring, Texas during an attempt to flee a traffic stop. According to the FOX 26 Houston, the incident occurred when a deputy initiated a traffic stop at around 2:46 a.m. on the 24400 block of I-45, where the vehicle in question failed to cooperate and approached an ongoing accident investigation site.
As reported by My Texas Daily, the suspect's vehicle stopped abruptly and then reversed into the sheriff's office unit, causing injury to a deputy was in the process of exiting the unit. Responding to the suspect's aggressive actions, deputies on scene discharged their firearms, which resulted in the suspect being critically injured.
The confrontation led to both the deputy and the suspect being taken to local hospitals for medical attention. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Inyerman Jose Munoz, succumbed to his injuries. The injured deputy, whose identity has not been released, was reported to have non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to be released from the hospital, as per statements made in FOX 26 Houston.
My Texas Daily reports that the deputies involved in the shooting had 2.5 years and less than a year of law enforcement experience, respectively. Sheriff Rand Henderson commented on the gravity of the situation, stating, "The suspect's actions today placed our Deputy's lives and safety in immediate danger, highlighting the unwavering dedication and courage demonstrated by our law enforcement officers. Men and women of law enforcement courageously confront danger daily to uphold the safety and security of our community. My thoughts and prayers are with the deputies, as well as the family and friends of the suspect, as they navigate this tragic event."
The ongoing investigation into this shooting is being carried out by the Homicide Violent Crimes Unit, Crime Scene Investigators, the Texas Rangers, and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
