A suspect landed in the hospital after a foot chase led to the use of a taser by LAPD officers in the 77th Street Division last Thursday. According to the LAPD Newsroom, officers were responding to a call of a Domestic Violence Restraining Order Violation at approximately 11:05 a.m. on the 1700 block of West 59th Street, where they encountered Brian Garay.
Garay, upon noticing police on the scene, chose flight over fight opting to run rather than cooperate leading to a chase, during which he was struck by Taser probes in the chest and stomach area officers employed the stun gun and the man went down, afterward he was handcuffed without further incident. Though no community members or officers were hurt during the event, it took a turn for the worse when Garay started experiencing medical distress while en route to the hospital.
Transported by the Los Angeles Fire Department, Garay's condition was critical upon arrival at a local hospital, but his status has since been marked stable after receiving medical attention. The Force Investigation Division of the LAPD is currently delving into the specifics of the incident as part of a standard procedure to ensure all actions taken align with departmental policies and the law.
Details of the case are still unfolding as the investigation persists, witness testimonies are being gathered, and evidence continues to be scrutinized the force applied in Garay's arrest is under close examination to piece together the moments leading to his injury. The narrative is still being shaped by ongoing inquiries, with the potential to shift as new information comes into play.
