A man connected to a series of robberies that shook the Georgetown community last year is now in custody, D.C. police say. The suspect, nabbed for his alleged involvement in two Northwest D.C. hold-ups, was apprehended by detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Second District.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the first incident occurred on December 16, 2023, at about 4:27 p.m. The suspect is said to have walked into a business on the 3400 block of M Street NW, feigned possession of a weapon, and forcefully demanded cash from the register. The store employee, faced with the threat, complied, after which the suspect made his escape.
Details on the second robbery were not immediately provided, but the Metropolitan Police Department has confirmed that it followed a similar pattern. The successful catch of the suspect marks a significant breakthrough in a case that has residents and business owners on edge. The man's name and additional information about the arrest have yet to be released.
Much to the community's relief, the swift action of the MPD's detectives underscores their commitment to maintaining safety and order in the district. Local businesses, particularly those victimized in the recent spate of crimes, have expressed gratitude for the police's ongoing efforts in apprehending those who disturb the peace, and tranquility of the neighborhood.
