Early morning on March 6, what seemed like a regular day in the Bay Area turned into a swift operation by law enforcement as they descended on three homes with warrants in hand. The Golden Gate Division Warrant Service Team, backed by the Oakland Police Department, was not just knocking for a friendly chat but following leads from an investigation that's been on the books since a shooting rattled the I-580 back in November.
The November 14th incident left a 66-year-old man from East Palo Alto wounded after his Gray Ford F-150 was targeted and his left hip struck by gunfire. Fast forward to this past Tuesday, and two alleged gang members, 21-year-old Eric Conley and 20-year-old Tayeshawn Cambell were scooped up by the authorities. Conley, from San Leandro, and Cambell, an Oakland resident, are now staring down the barrel of serious charges, including attempted murder and assault with a firearm, according to the CHP Golden Gate Division's official Facebook page.
Arrests weren’t the only thing on the menu that day. Alongside the suspects, cops confiscated a handful of firearms—five to be exact, likely adding more heat to an already scorching legal battle ahead for the duo. Slapped with recommended gang enhancements, the charges and seized arsenal speak volumes of the gravity of the situation those two individuals are alleged to be part of.
The ramifications of these charges could see both Conley and Cambell, the latter of whom was just 20 at the time of the arrest, potentially spending a significant part of their lives behind bars. They were booked into Santa Rita Jail, where they await the long arm of the law to deliberate over their fate.
