The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County was inundated with 10 dogs, including an English bulldog and nine puppies in desperate need of care over a harrowing three-day period. A 4-month-old Labrador Retriever puppy, suffering from a severe neck laceration and an infected abscess near the eye, was among the animals rescued last weekend. The injurious collar, much too constrictive for the young canine's neck, was the cause behind its painful wounds, as report by MyNorthwest.
Facing a more grisly scene on Sunday was a 3-year-old English bulldog discovered with grievous gunshot wounds. The bulldog, having been shot three times directly in the face and shoulder, was rushed to the shelter with a bullet still lodged within. The shelter revealed the dog was in severe pain, with broken teeth and a fractured jaw, a situation they detailed would require to shortly undergo expensive medical procedures for recovery, including surgery to extract the remaining bullet, according to FOX Chattanooga.
The team at the Humane Society faced nonstop pressure as they worked meticulously to save the ten dogs, a group that also included eight puppies alongside the injured bulldog and Labrador. Swift action taken by the personnel likely prevented further deterioration of their condition. The plight of the dogs rallied public sympathy and highlighted the ongoing issue of animal rescue and care in the community. Anyone with information about the cases or willing to aid the shelter's efforts was encouraged by the humane society to come forward, as per KATU.
