A teenage boy's joyride in a stolen Lexus came to a screeching halt after Metropolitan Police nabbed him for armed carjacking in Northwest Washington, authorities said. The adolescent suspect, whose name has not been released due to his age, is facing serious charges including Armed Carjacking and firearm offenses.
The harrowing incident unfolded yesterday morning when Third District officers received a call about an armed carjacking on the Unit block of O Street, Northwest. The victim reported she was coerced out of her car at gunpoint by the youth, who then made off with her vehicle. According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the suspect threatened to harm her if she did not comply.
Shortly after the carjacking, Fourth District officers were alerted to a hit and run at the crossroads of Rock Creek Church Road and Taylor Street, Northwest. The officers quickly spotted the stolen Lexus and pulled over the 16-year-old driver in the 200 block of Upshur Street, Northwest. A gun and additional evidence tied the teen to the earlier carjacking.
Police have confirmed the recovery of a firearm along with a large capacity ammunition feeding device. The juvenile perpetrator, hailing from Southeast, has subsequently been charged, putting an end to a brief spree of crime that shook the local community. His arrest, a swift response by the MPD detectives, brings closure to the victim of the startling daylight carjacking.
