A 14-year-old girl was wounded in a drive-by shooting in Long Beach, officials confirmed. The incident took place on the night of March 28 in the 1000 block of Cedar Avenue, according to a statement from the Long Beach Police Department posted online.

The teen victim, found with a gunshot wound to her lower body at the 1100 block of Linden Avenue around 6:40 p.m., was reportedly traveling in a stolen Kia with a group when the violence erupted. "While stopped at an intersection, one of the subjects engaged a male suspect while he was inside his vehicle, which resulted in the suspect shooting towards the group and striking the victim," the LBPD said.  Responding to the chaotic scene, Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the injured girl to a local hospital, where she is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, as reported by the Long Beach Police Department.

The suspect, having fled in his vehicle before officers arrived, remains at large, and the LBPD is actively investigating the motive behind the shooting and searching for any pertinent suspect information. Found near the original location of the altercation, the stolen car involved in the incident was later recovered. The 14-year-old and their acquaintances had initially left the scene in the same stolen vehicle after the shooting, only stopping to call for emergency assistance, as per the Long Beach Police Department.

The LBPD continues to work the case, urging anyone with information to come forward in hopes of apprehending the individual responsible. This developing story will be updated as new information becomes available.
