On Friday night, two teenagers were gunned down in a north Houston park, officials report. The Houston Police Department is searching for clues after a 16-year-old and a person aged 18 or 19 became the latest victims of gunfire in the city.
According to ABC13, the incident occurred around 10:08 p.m. at a park located behind an apartment complex on Casa Grande Drive. The two teens were reportedly just hanging out when, they heard gunshots and were struck by bullets. Investigators at the scene discovered shell casings and have secured video footage of the boys heading to the park, though the actual shooting was not caught on camera.
Details of the assailant remain scant with HPD Lt. R. Willkens saying, "We don't have any descriptions on suspects or cars and no one else really saw anything," in a statement obtained by KHOU. The authorities are appealing to the public for witnesses or anyone with further video evidence to step forward.
The condition of the teenagers has captured the community's concern, with the younger victim shot in the upper body and described as being in "bad shape," while the older teen suffered a leg wound, police said he is expected to be OK. Currently, there is a haunting absence, of suspect information, and local residents are left on edge as the shooter remains at large.
Police urge anyone with information to help piece together this flagrant act of violence that has once again left young lives hanging in the balance. As HPD continues their search, they are determined to uncover the assailant responsible for this senseless act of violence in their community.
