In an aggressive move to ramp up school safety, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has laid out new guidance for school districts across the state, breaking down exactly what's required to keep kids safe. In a statement that came through yesterday, Paxton emphasized the role of informed Texas families in ensuring these safety measures are not just empty promises but actions firmly put into place and maintained within educational establishments.
Paxton's advisory highlighted the necessity of silent panic alarms in every classroom, a mandate that is part of the state's broader school safety initiatives, it also underlined that there should be armed security officers on every campus, employees are to complete mental-health training, there has to be law enforcement walkthroughs of schools, and the adoption of electronic systems to inform parents in case of violent incidents on site. Paxton stated, "Schools have an essential responsibility to protect student safety and well-being," as per the Texas Attorney General's Office.
Furthermore, in a bid to assure that school resource officers are fully prepared, the Law Enforcement Division of the Office of the Attorney General was instructed by Paxton to share access to their advanced virtual training simulator.
This tool is crafted to prepare officers with highly accurate scenarios to improve their response to real-life emergencies. "School resource officers must have access to the best training available," Paxton declared, indicating that his actions aim to buttress the skill and preparedness of those guarding Texas' children, according to the Texas Attorney General's Office.
