The State of Texas continues its dominant streak with the Governor's Cup back in its trophy case for the 12th year straight. Governor Greg Abbott announced Texas's victory in attracting the most new and expanded business facility projects in 2023. The state secured 1,254 projects, a number that more than doubles the projects gained by its nearest competitor, according to details provided by the Governor's office.
During a press conference at the Governor's Mansion in Austin, Abbott attributed this success to the state's policy on cutting red tape and burdensome regulations, and continued investment in infrastructure, education, and workforce development. "Texas moves at the speed of business," Abbott said, "By cutting red tape and burdensome regulations, and making strategic, continuing investments in infrastructure, education, and workforce development, Texas offers businesses the freedom to grow and Texans the tools to prosper." The governor went on to commend the local, regional, and state economic development teams for their role in fostering business growth in Texas.
Site Selection magazine, the entity behind the Governor’s Cup since 1978, hands out this accolade annually to the U.S. state that achieves the highest volume of job-creating facility operations and expansions. Site Selection Editor-in-Chief Mark Arend joined Abbott for the announcement, along with Secretary of State Jane Nelson; members of the Texas Legislature; and various business and economic development leaders.
The Governor’s Cup is more than just another piece of hardware for Texas. Echoing this sentiment and celebrating Texas' longstanding record of economic achievement, Mark Arend said, "Texas offers businesses the freedom to grow and Texans the tools to prosper." Abbott praised the efforts that have led to a diversified economy, with job creation spanning various communities throughout the huge state.
