Thai Tail Set to Spice Up Montrose Scene with Fast-Casual Flavors in Former La Fendee LocationSource: Google Street View

Montrose, get ready for a blast of Thai flavors. In a space once home to Mediterranean flavors, a new Thai restaurant is setting up shop. Thai Tail, from the MaKiin Concepts hospitality group, is targeting a May grand opening where La Fendee once stood, at 1402 Westheimer Road. This latest addition to Houston's dining scene aims to blend Thai cuisine with American fast-casual vibes, without making diners wait for the check.

The venture is looking to extend MaKiin Concepts' culinary repertoire in the Houston area. The group, founded by entrepreneur Lukkaew Srasrisuwan, first caught Houston's taste buds with Kin Dee in 2020, during the trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Following Kin Dee's blueprint, Thai Tail will mirror some of its sibling's fan favorites with take-out and delivery options, but don't expect the usual sit-down dinner atmosphere. It's all about the grab-and-go here, "Thai Tail will be a fast casual concept with a self-service set-up and a fusion menu," reports Houston Press.

Alongside classic noodle dishes and vibrant curries, Thai Tail plans to spice up the scene with Thai twists on cocktails. The eatery is also prospecting a refresh of the former La Fendee digs, promising more seats to handle the montrose buzz – because, hungry Houstonians need space to enjoy their Pad Thai.

Not just a one-hit wonder, Srasrisuwan's MaKiin Concepts recently unveiled Makiin, elevating Thai cuisine to the fancy tier, with plates "served to royal families in Thailand," as cited by Community Impact. And if diners' past loyalty to the brand is anything to go by, Thai Tail might just be the new hot ticket in town come May. With their diverse portfolio, the group sure knows how to keep Houston's ever-curious foodies on their toes.

The Montrose district, with its ever-evolving palette of dining experiences, is no stranger to good food and stiff competition. It's a place where Mediterranean once thrived, and where Thai now hopes to claim its spot. As Thai Tail gears up for the big reveal, one thing's clear: Houston's hunger for global flavors isn't slowing down – it’s getting a fast-casual reboot, Montrose style.
