A collision involving a horse and buggy and an SUV in Jackson County left three people injured, including two children, according to Michigan State Police. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. Sunday near Moscow and Hatch Roads in Hanover Township, an area southwest of Jackson.

The Detroit News reported that a Ford Escape, driven by a 16-year-old girl from Jackson, rear-ended the buggy which was also traveling southbound on Moscow Road. The young driver allegedly could not stop in time, leading to the crash that caused minor injuries to herself and serious injuries to two 10-year-old passengers of the buggy.

Authorities confirmed to WWJ Newsradio 950 that along with the two children, a 32-year-old woman sustained a hip injury from the impact. All three were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The buggy, containing a total of nine passengers, had other occupants ranging from ages 2 to 7 who miraculously, were unharmed in the accident.

An investigation revealed the horse and buggy were operated by a 32-year-old man from Hanover who did not sustain injuries. In a statement given to WLNS, the authorities mentioned that drugs or alcohol did not appear to be factors in the collision. Nevertheless, the teenage driver was cited for being unable to stop within an assured clear distance.
