A tragic collision claimed three lives in South Fulton earlier today on Old National Highway when a sedan slammed into a three-wheeled vehicle known as a Slingshot. The incident, which shut down the highway, occurred near 1:30 a.m. at 7225 Old National Highway, according to South Fulton Police Department reports.
The Slingshot, a motorcycle that has made a name for itself with its unconventional design and thrill-seeking appeal, was no match for the brutal physics of metal-on-metal. While authorities have yet to release the names of the victims, a family affected by the tragedy is beginning to share their grief. Terence Guthrie, in an interview with Atlanta News First, identified his stepfather, Ryan Hines, as one the of the crash's casualties.
Hines, described as a kind-hearted individual who had a passion for his Slingshot, was apparently on his way home when the incident took place. "He was turning in and a car came, and he died on impact," said Guthrie, conveying the immediacy of the loss. The aftermath of the collision left Hines's family and friends grappling with the void his sudden death has created, a sentiment Guthrie voiced when he relayed the depth of his mother's sorrow to reporters, "My mother is at the house right now. She's grieving pretty hard. Everybody is going to miss him."
FOX 5 Atlanta reported that the accident forced the temporary closure of a section of Old National Highway, causing significant traffic disruptions. Authorities suggested detours via Fayetteville Road or Interstate 85 as they worked the scene. The roadway was reopened later that morning around 7:20 a.m., according to FOX 5. Meanwhile, the South Fulton Police Department continues its investigation into the cause of the fatal crash.
