Residents in St. Louis Park should brace for some upcoming changes as tree removal operations kick off next week to make way for the Cedar Lake Road improvements project. The sound of chainsaws will be a temporary backdrop when Vineland Tree Care, the city's contractor, gets to work on uprooting local foliage.
The affected areas include spots in front of Westwood Church and at the corner of Texas Avenue and Cedar Lake Road, with the activity scheduled for Thursday, March 28. Officials are urging the public to give the crews room to operate, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a safe distance during the tree removal process. While the disruption may prove an eyesore and an inconvenience, the trees being removed will only be taken out above ground for now, with stumps scheduled for extraction over the summer months, according to a community announcement from the City of St. Louis Park.
In a statement obtained by the City's communication, Mark Lockhart, who coordinates the project, assures locals that the municipality prioritizes tree preservation and will aim to minimize the environmental impact. "The City of St. Louis Park strives to preserve trees wherever possible. However, sometimes there is a necessity to remove some trees that will be impacted by construction," Lockhart explained. Plans for replanting new trees post-construction are already in the pipeline, ensuring that the green footprint is restored.
For those with queries or concerns about the project, Lockhart can be reached at 952.924.2667 or via email at [email protected], inviting a community dialogue surrounding the upcoming urban changes. Information is also available through the city's project bulletin. The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the area, though residents will have to weather the initial phase of tree removal to see the benefits.
