A violent clash at a Sunnyvale park has left two injured and two juveniles in custody after a fight involving weapons drew a police response Thursday evening. Sunnyvale DPS officers were called to Ponderosa Park at approximately 5:37 p.m. following reports of an altercation involving armed suspects, according to a statement from the department.

Upon arrival, officers witnessed several juveniles attempting to flee the scene quickly. Two were stopped and arrested after they were found to clearly be in possession of a firearm and a machete-style knife. While the investigation at the park proceeded, dispatch received word of an adult male with gunshot wounds at a local hospital, now listed in stable condition. A second juvenile male victim was later identified at another hospital, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries from the incident.
Detectives from the Sunnyvale DPS are digging through the preliminary evidence, which suggests the individuals involved were acquainted with each other before the confrontation. This episode of violence appears not to be a random occurrence but rather a simmering dispute that boiled over into physical conflict and gunfire in the open air of Ponderosa Park.
