Long Beach streets were rattled by gunfire over the weekend with two separate shooting incidents reported by the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD). On March 16, 2024, the first of these violent outbursts occurred roughly at 6:26 pm at the intersection of East 1st Street and The Promenade, where, according to an LBPD blotter release, a 16-year-old boy sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound to his lower body.
Upon officers' arrival at the scene, they provided immediate medical aid to the young victim until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived to transport him to a local hospital. Despite the evidence found at the location indicating the event of a shooting, the suspect remains unidentified, and the motive behind the attack is still a mystery. The LBPD blotter report states that detectives have taken up the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.
A later incident that same night introduced more chaos into the Long Beach community. At approximately 11:32 p.m., the LBPD was summoned to the 1800 block of Pine Avenue in response to yet another shooting. This time, the confrontation involved an exchange of gunfire between unknown individuals. When police got to the location, no victims were found, but bullet casings and other indicators confirmed that a shooting had indeed taken place.
Similar to the earlier shooting, this later incident left authorities with scant details and no injuries to account for. The perpetrators managed to evade law enforcement, leaving no clear picture of the individuals or the events that transpired. "Suspect information and the motive for the shooting are unknown," detailed the official police report. The LBPD is pursuing an investigation to uncover the reasons and the culprits behind the gunfire.
