Two young men are behind bars following a string of vandalism acts at a Gwinnett County construction site. Cole Hemphill, 19, and Jeremy Lynn Russ Jr., 20, were pinpointed as the culprits responsible for spray-painting swastikas and causing other property damage in the tranquil community near Dacula, according to authorities.
After a barrage of tips flooded in, the Gwinnett County Police apprehended Hemphill and Russ, with the investigation revealing surveillance footage of the duo engaging in the destructive behavior. Wantingly spray-painting construction equipment and tampering with vehicles, the police say they inflicted significant damage. This information was detailed in a report by Atlanta News First.
On top of the racist graffiti, the pair also managed to disrupt operations by damaging excavators' windshield wipers, spraying equipment with paint, and desecrating the seat of a construction vehicle with a screwdriver, as shared by FOX 5 Atlanta. Before fleeing the scene, the suspects allegedly extracted SIM cards from one of the site's security cameras – a move hinting at a premeditated intent to obstruct their criminal identification.
Both Hemphill and Russ face multiple charges which include two counts of theft by taking, loitering and prowling, entering auto, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies, second-degree criminal damage to property, and criminal attempt to commit a felony. The escalation of their charges compounded by the possession of a firearm; an act which incontrovertibly marries foolishness with felonious intent.
