Want to try your hand at turning maple trees into strands of sweet, sticky gold? The University of Minnesota Extension has got your back with an upcoming maple syrup workshop set for Waverly on April 13. Perfect for the syruping novice or the seasoned pros looking to up their game, the workshop promises a blend of classroom learning and in-the-field practice.
Sweet-toothed hobbyists are about to quickly learn the tips and tricks on tapping not just trees, but into a tradition that dates back centuries. According to information from a Wright County announcement, attendees will dive into the history of maple syrup, the nitty-gritty of laws and regulations, and a course on how to successfully extract and process sap sustainably.
They haven't forgotten the unpredictable March weather, either. The hands-on event will have you prepped to brave the elements appropriately, so be sure to dress in layers and waterproof boots. And, just like the lines waiting for a pancake breakfast, spots are limited— the workshop can only handle a sweet gathering of 20 participants.
Interested folks should make a bee-line to register at z.umn.edu/MapleSyrup2024, but don't drag your feet—pre-registration is a must. If Mother Nature decides to pour cold water on the parade with some unwelcome bad weather, rest assured, registered participants will to be timely notified on the morning of the workshop about any cancellations.
Do you have syrup inquiries or registration roadblocks? A chat with Extension Educator Emily Hansen, who can be reached at 612-394-6302, should get you out of the sticky situation. Whether it's the buzz of the drill or the scent of boiling sap, this workshop is your ticket to some sweet success.
