It's time for Philly seniors to ditch the rocking chair for paintbrushes and pencils. Philadelphia Parks & Recreation's Older Adult program is rolling out the carpet for its Senior Art Camp, where age is just a number and artistic expression knows no bounds. Scheduled at the lush Fairmount Park Horticulture Center, the program promises a week chock-full of creative endeavors from June 3 to 14, 2024.

For a cool 50 bucks a pop, participants can choose from an array of classes that span the artistic spectrum. Budding Picassos can dabble in intermediate or advanced acrylic painting, while those who fancy a pencil or pastel can opt for drawing and sketching, or drawing with colored pencils/oil pastels. But the fun doesn't end there: mixed media, 3-D paper mâché sculpture, Bead-n-Go jewelry making, and crafts round out the offerings. Even watercolor enthusiasts can brush up their skills in an advanced watercolor class.

According to phila.gov, all participants "receive personalized instruction and basic artist materials." And it won't just be the enticing art – the camp also provides a continental breakfast and lunch daily, so the only thing campers need to focus on is channeling their inner Monet.

Interested parties must pre-register by May 24, 2024, to secure a spot. Registration can be a breeze if you hop over to the Horticulture Center on one of two select days: March 19 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., or April 30 during the same hours. For those who prefer the postal route, mail-in options are available. But don't let the snail mail slow your roll; spaces are likely to fill faster than a fresh canvas at an art party.
