A serious crash left one person injured after their vehicle flipped multiple times on a highway ramp in Travis County. Officials from Austin-Travis County EMS, as well as fire and rescue teams, responded to the wreckage that occurred shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday on the northbound SH 130 ramp to eastbound SH 71. This was reported by KXAN.
The single-vehicle mishap resulted in a trauma alert for the occupant, who was quickly transported to St. David's South Austin Medical Center with what were said to be potentially serious injuries. The exact nature of the injuries was not disclosed, but they were serious enough receiving immediate transportation, according to Austin-Travis County EMS. The rainy conditions were considered to not play a part in the accident, even though the incident took place during a spell of bad weather.
There were no indications that any other vehicles were involved in the incident. The first responders swiftly worked to clear the scene and ensure that the patient received the necessary emergency care. According to a tweet from ATCEMS, no further information has been made available as EMS personnel have since left the scene.
Authorities are looking into what caused the vehicle to lose control and roll on the ramp, with an update expected to follow the initial investigation. Delays in traffic were observed as a result of the accident and drivers were advised to seek alternate routes while the scene was being examined and then cleared. Officials have yet to comment on whether or not speed was a factor, though the aftermath of the rollover painted a grim picture of the vehicle's harrowing descent.
