The calm of a Long Beach night was shattered when violence struck in two separate incidents, resulting in a stabbing and a no-hit shooting within hours of each other, authorities said.
On March 7, just before half past ten at night, Long Beach police were called to the scene of a stabbing on the 2000 block of Long Beach Boulevard. According to the Long Beach Police Department blotter, they found a man suffering stab wounds to the lower body. Reportedly, assailants unknown had accosted him as he walked, swiftly delivering their violent message with an object yet to be identified, before taking flight in an undisclosed direction.
The victim was promptly tended to by the Long Beach Fire Department and taken to a local hospital. His injuries were declared non-life-threatening. In the wake of the attack, the question of why lingers unanswered, the incident's motive shrouded in mystery as much as the identities of the three male suspects. Police have disclosed no further details as the search for the perpetrators continues.
Hours later, another act of violence was reported, this time on the 6700 block of Gardenia Avenue. At the dawn of March 8, around four in the morning, police answered a shots call, arriving at a scene ridden with bullet casings and the telltale marks of gunfire on structures. Getting away before police could arrive, the person or persons responsible had left no victim behind to account for their deed. The Long Beach Police Department confirms no injuries have been reported and that the case remains open, with the motive and suspect information remaining as elusive as any sense of safety in this current series of events having been breached.
Long Beach authorities urge anyone with information on either event to come forward and assist in solving these crimes. The investigations for both the stabbing and shooting are active and ongoing.
