A wanted man freeloading on the dime of a voucher provided by the San Diego Sheriff's Department was nabbed at an El Cajon hotel on Tuesday, March 7. Andrew Martin, 39, of East County, was holed up at the Clarion Pointe Hotel enjoying the company of his girlfriend, who had been placed there by the authorities, supposedly as part of a homeless outreach effort.
According to the El Cajon Police Department's X post, Martin’s girlfriend had caught the eye of law enforcement not for her circumstances but because she played host to Martin. While enjoying the amenities provided by the generosity of public funds, detectives, helped by U.S. Marshals and deputies from the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, busted in with a search warrant.

Martin was on the radar for all the wrong reasons. His escapades in 2023 had led to a string of charges, including felony evading and assault on a law enforcement officer. With a record like that, it's no wonder the police were eager to slap the cuffs on and cart him off to where he could do no more harm.
The operation to catch Martin was quietly executed and concluded without incident. Getting slipped into the San Diego County Jail, he is now separated from his unwitting benefactors and society. Details on his girlfriend's current situation remain unclear, as the cops kept mum on what will become of her post-arrest.
