A Wareham man led police on a modest chase before crashing and nabbing charges for operating under the influence, among other counts. Geoffrey Chandler, 37, allegedly took his erratic driving through South Plymouth before Officer Kevin Ciavarra initiated pursuit and apprehended him post-crash, according to the Plymouth Police Department.
Chandler is now facing charges including OUI Liquor and Negligent Operation of an M/V, among others. The incident, which occurred late on March 18, ended with Chandler striking a tree and attempting to flee on foot. His escape was short-lived, as Officer Ciavarra captured him quickly. Notably, Chandler also had two outstanding warrants for various charges including Strangulation and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
In a disturbingly similar timeframe, another violent incident shook a Downtown restaurant when a brawl escalated into a stabbing incident. Richard Velez, 27, of Middleboro was identified and arrested. Velez is accused of stabbing one person and threatening another with a knife during the melee, as reported by the Plymouth Police Department. Authorities were able to bring the fight under control and render aid to the injured parties.
