Two Warren residents are now facing serious charges for their alleged involvement in a fatal car crash that police believe was caused by illegal street racing. Tayasukh Ayman, 20, and Golam Chowdhury, 22, were both charged with reckless driving causing death and serious injury, according to a Detroit News report. The incident left a 53-year-old Warren man dead, and a 25-year-old Warren woman critically injured, stated Warren Police.
The fatal collision occurred at the intersection of 10 Mile and Ryan Roads on Feb. 25. Ayman was driving a black Honda Accord, and Chowdhury was in a gray Toyota Camry, both vehicles reportedly speeding and driving recklessly. The two are suspected to have been engaged in a race when Ayman's car struck a second Honda Accord that was turning into a Tim Hortons’ parking lot, as described by WWJ Newsradio 950. Bonds for Ayman and Chowdhury were set at $50,000 each, and they are required to wear a GPS tether and surrender their passports, should they post bond.
This was the second deadly crash within a 24-hour period that shook the community of Warren. The day prior, another fatal crash occurred at Groesbeck and 11 Mile Road, claiming one life, as reported by Hoodline. Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer called the successive incidents "very remarkable," expressing grief over the tragedies and extending condolences to the affected families.
Officials highlight the dangers of reckless driving with Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer stating, "One person is dead and another is critically injured as a result of two drivers making the choice to ignore the posted speed limits and engage in some type of racing which cost an innocent and uninvolved resident their life," in a statement obtained by WWJ Newsradio 950. The crash and subsequent charges serve to remind all drivers to respect the law and drive safely to prevent such needless events in the future. No attorneys for Ayman and Chowdhury made comments regarding the charges as of yet.
