Washington County Libraries are rolling out a lineup of kid-friendly events that are sure to dazzle young minds with everything from snakes and engineering to yo-yos and bugs. The series kicks off with "Snake Discovery: Reptiles Around the World" at Hardwood Creek Library on March 5, where children must be with a responsible adult if they're under 8, to learn about reptiles from various continents. Attendees should reserve their spots for this hands-on educational event, as mentioned in the library's announcement.
Keeping the momentum, "Family Engineering Day with The Works" offers kids 6 and up a chance to get crafty on March 7 at R.H. Stafford Library. No need to register for this event where building a ping-pong ball launcher and tinkering with magnets is all part of the fun. Following close on its heels, "Snake Discovery: Snake, Rattle, and Roll" makes its way to Park Grove Library on March 8, treating children to the wonders of local reptilian and amphibian life.
Yo-yo enthusiasts are in for a treat as "Dazzling Dave, Yo-Yo Master" showcases his mind-bending tricks at Wildwood Library on March 9. This program, designed for school-age children, energizes audiences without the need for prior registration. Hard on the heels of the yo-yo mastery, Bruce the Bug Guy will bring the insect world to Oakdale Library on March 13, and again at Lake Elmo Library on March 22, offering an up-close look at our smallest neighbors.
For those budding scientists, the Bakken Museum provides two electrifying opportunities to learn about magnets, electricity, and circuitry. "Magnets and Electricity with the Bakken Museum" will spark curiosity at Wildwood Library on March 26, while "Batteries, Bulbs, and Wires" will light up Valley Library, also on March 26. Kids can put their hands to work in both sessions but should register in advance for the latter, as detailed on the Washington County website.
Art merges with nature in "River Weavings" on March 27 at Valley Library, where participants weave creations inspired by the Mississippi River, funded by the same Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund fueling the prior events. Meanwhile, "Drop-in Zine Workshop" welcomes children 8-18 at Lake Elmo Library to craft unique zines on the same day, in a setting that encourages individual expression.
Concluding the month's slate of events, "Siama’s Congo Roots" invites families to a vibrant musical experience at Lake Elmo Library on March 29. The journey wraps up with Miss Nina’s high-energy "Rap, Rock, and Read" concert at Wildwood Library on March 30, perfect for toddlers and preschoolers ready to rap and rock out.
