Washington D.C. residents should brace for a wet and stormy week ahead, as the National Weather Service forecasts a series of showers and possible thunderstorms starting tonight and persisting through Wednesday. According to the NWS report, after a partly sunny day with a high near 69 degrees, showers are likely to commence post 2 a.m., bringing up to a quarter of an inch of rain.
The rainfall isn't expected to let up anytime soon, with showers and possibly thunderstorms predicted for Monday, cloudy skies, and a high near 68; the chance of precipitation is sitting at 70%, provide residents with a soggy start to their work week, and while new precipitation could vary, increased amounts are expected in thunderstorms. By Monday night, rain chances increase to 90%, alongside potential thunderstorms which could continue to bring additional rainfall, and while the low will hover around 49 degrees winds are forecasted to come from the east around 8 mph.
As if Monday wasn't wet enough, Tuesday won't be much drier, with the weather service hinting at yet another bout of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m., a high nearing 58 degrees, and an east wind blowing between 6 to 10 mph; the chance of precipitation holds steady at 90%. Tuesday night appears to mirror the day's wet conditions with showers, possible thunderstorms before 5 a.m., and then more showers likely as temperatures dip to about 48 degrees, maintaining a high chance of precipitation at 80%.
Wednesday offers little respite from the damp conditions, with continued showers and mostly cloudy skies, though with temperatures reaching a high near 58, the possibility of precipitation does drop slightly to 70%, maybe signaling the tail end of the wet spell. The week's weather spectacle starts winding down by Wednesday night with a 40% chance of showers before 2 a.m., leading into a partly sunny Thursday with a high near 54, and finally, a dose of mostly sunny skies by Friday, even if the air retains its brisk qualities.
For residents weary of the rain, the forecast promises a clearer weekend with mostly sunny skies Saturday and highs inching towards the upper 50s, providing a much-needed break from the deluge that envelopes the capital during the week. As Washingtonians navigate through the impending storms, it's an umbrella-clutching, rain-boots-stomping affair that confirms spring's unsettled nature is in full swing.
