In the quiet darkness of the early morning, White Settlement police officers swiftly arrested a juvenile suspected of vehicle burglary and retrieved a stolen gun. At approximately 1 a.m., a call came in reporting a vehicle burglary in progress along the 700 block of Dale Lane. According to the White Settlement Police Department, officers arrived just in time to spot the suspect, who attempted a daring escape on foot.
The chase was short-lived as Officers Wyly and Ramirez managed to catch up to the individual. Support on the scene was provided by Officer Brown and Corporal Russell, with WEST COMM Dispatcher Wright coordinating the response from behind the scenes. The suspect's night of crime appeared to include the smashing of car windows and the theft of items from two different vehicles, a gun, a backpack, and a pair of Air Pods included. Although the law prohibits the disclosure of the suspect’s identity due to their minor status, authorities confirmed that the individual was transported to Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center for processing.
With the recovered firearm being one of three stolen in vehicular break-ins over the past week, the department took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of gun security. Community members were urged, especially in the wake of this most recent incident, to never leave firearms inside unattended vehicles.
In the wake of these burglaries, the White Settlement Police Department stands as a stark reminder of the persistent risks entwined with vehicle security and the importance of vigilance in protecting one's valuables. As guns continue to be a hot commodity for thieves, residents are encouraged to rethink where they store their firearms when not in use — and to perhaps, consider a more secure alternative than the glove box or under the seat of their car.
