Williamson County Shelter Seeks Community Help After Rescuing Over 40 Cats from Single HomeSource: Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter

In an act of community outreach, the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (WCRAS) is urgently calling on local residents to help find homes for scores of felines. The shelter is currently housing over 40 cats that were recently rescued from a single property. KXAN reports that the influx of animals is causing a strain on the shelter's resources, prompting WCRAS to quickly to make space by encouraging adoptions and fostering.

Misty Valenta, WCRAS's animal services director, was quoted by outlets emphasizing the shelter's commitment and community engagement. "We are dedicated to caring for these cats at this time and grateful to staff, volunteers, fosters, and the community because we know when we put a call out for help, the community answers that call. Working as a team, we will work through this influx and continue to save lives," Valenta told CBS Austin.

Interested adopters can preview these cats, alongside other animals seeking homes, on the WCRAS website. The shelter is not solely dedicated to the current feline surge; dog adoptions have also been promoted with the "Pick Your Price" event for dogs weighing over 30 pounds, while the adoption fees for all other animals have been set at $75.

For those not looking to adopt, fostering presents an opportunity help without a long-term commitment. Fosters will receive necessary support, with donated supplies and medical care provided by the shelter for any issues that may arise with the animals. As the shelter grapples to accommodate the new admissions alongside their existing population, the call echoes an urgent need for communal assistance. "With the community's help, the shelter will make it through this difficult time," WCRAS officials stated in a press release obtained by KXAN.

WCRAS is open for visitation and counseling for potential pet parents during normal business hours, from noon to 6 p.m. The shelter staff are available to help anyone interested in fostering or adopting to find the perfect cat or dog to take home.
