
A woman was hospitalized after being shot by security guards following an altercation over a parking spot at the Houston Zoo, officials confirmed. The incident erupted into violence Friday afternoon at 6100 Hermann Park Drive, with the Houston Police Department reporting to a call around 2:15 p.m. initially considered to be a firearm discharge, later upgraded to an active shooting, as per KTRK.
An argument over a coveted parking spot spiraled when the woman, who had kids in her car, allegedly assaulted another individual, prompting security officers at the scene to respond; as the woman attempted to flee, her vehicle struck one of the guards leading to shots fired by at least two officers that struck the woman multiple times.
The condition of the woman, who was quickly transported to the hospital, remains undisclosed, and Houston Police have not commented on the possibility of other injuries, including those of the children present in the car during the shooting.
As reported by the Houston Police via X, while this incident caused immediate concern within the Houston community, authorities have since secured the area, assuring that there is no ongoing threat to the public, their statement further highlighting the swift containment of the scenario amidst the chaos.
